At LifeX, we strive to provide a clean and comfortable living environment for all members. However, keeping the home pest-free requires everyone’s cooperation.

🐜 Who is Responsible?

Members are fully responsible for purchasing and using pest control solutions such as bug repellents, traps, and sprays. This includes dealing with:

  • 🦟 Fruit flies (often attracted by leftover food and spills)

  • πŸ¦‹ Moths (commonly brought in via clothing, food, or second-hand furniture)

  • πŸͺ³ Silverfish (often found in damp or cluttered spaces)

  • 🐜 Other household pests

Since these pests are introduced through daily activities, it is not the landlord’s responsibility to handle infestations caused by members’ actions.

🚨 Moth Prevention: What You Need to Know

Moth infestations are 100% the responsibility of members. It is important to take proactive steps to avoid bringing them into your home.

πŸ”Ή How to Prevent Moths from Invading Your Space:

βœ… Inspect second-hand clothing & furniture – Moths can hide in fabric! Wash or freeze items before bringing them in.
βœ… Store food properly – Keep dry goods in airtight containers to prevent pantry moths.
βœ… Use natural repellents – Cedarwood, lavender sachets, or moth traps can help keep them away.
βœ… Vacuum & declutter regularly – Moths thrive in undisturbed areas, like under furniture and in dark closets.
βœ… Check your wardrobe – If you notice holes in clothing, inspect for larvae and wash affected items in hot water.

πŸ“Œ If an infestation occurs, it is your responsibility to take action by purchasing traps, repellents, and thoroughly cleaning affected areas.

πŸ› Bed Bug Prevention & Responsibility

Bed bugs are a serious issue that can spread quickly once introduced into a home. If a member brings bed bugs into the apartment, they may be held financially responsible for treatment costs, depending on the severity of the outbreak.

πŸ”Ή How to Prevent Bringing Bed Bugs into Your Home

βœ… Be cautious when traveling – Always check hotel beds and furniture for small brown spots or live bugs before settling in.
βœ… Inspect second-hand furniture – Avoid bringing in used mattresses, sofas, or upholstered items without thorough inspection.
βœ… Wash clothes after trips – If you’ve traveled, wash and dry your clothes on high heat to kill any potential bed bugs.
βœ… Use protective mattress covers – A bed bug-proof mattress cover can prevent them from settling in.
βœ… Be mindful in public places – Bed bugs can latch onto bags, coats, and clothing in public transport, libraries, and cinemas.

πŸ“Œ If bed bugs are found in your room and determined to have been introduced by you, LifeX may pass on the cost of extermination to you.
