MitID: A Complete Guide

👋 This article is for new members in Copenhagen and Aarhus who sign their contract with MitID.

Written by Xena

⚖️ Why We Use MitID

MitID is Denmark's official digital ID. A MitID signature counts as a qualified electronic signature under EU law (eIDAS), so it is legally equal to a handwritten signature in all EU countries.

  • ✅ Only you can sign with your verified identity.

  • ✅ Any change after signing makes the signature invalid.

  • ✅ The signature is valid in court.

This system is used not to validate the legality of the contract content itself, but to ensure the identity of the signer and the authenticity of the signature.

✅ Step-by-Step: How to Sign

1️⃣ You receive an email from Dropbox Sign with a secure link to your contract.

2️⃣ Open the link and log in with your MitID app. Confirm your CPR number when asked.

3️⃣ Accept the InfoCert terms and conditions. This is needed to complete the signature.

4️⃣ Enter the code you receive by SMS.

5️⃣ Done! You will receive confirmation emails from Dropbox Sign and eID Easy / InfoCert, with the signed documents.

📌 Good to Know

  • Only one tenant can sign with MitID per contract. If you share a room as a couple, we send the contract in a different way.

  • MitID confirms who signed. It doesn't check the content of the contract.

🔗 Legal Framework

Under eIDAS (EU Regulation No 910/2014):

  • MitID qualifies as a Qualified Electronic Signature (QES).

  • It is legally equivalent to a handwritten signature in all EU countries.

  • Contracts signed with MitID are enforceable across the EU.
