Below you'll find everything you need to know about what is considered bedding, how to check for stains, and the best cleaning methods to follow.

🛏 Bedding vs. Linen – What’s the Difference?

  • Bedding (LifeX-provided and must be returned clean):

    • Top mattress

    • Duvet

    • Pillows (sleeping & decorative)

    • Mattress protector

    • Pillow protectors (they have a small blue Jysk tag)

  • Linen (belongs to you and doesn’t need to be returned):

    • Fitted sheet

    • Duvet cover

    • Pillow covers

    • Towels

Please make sure to take your linen with you or dispose of it properly before moving out.

🔍 Do You See Stains?

We’ll inspect your bedding during your move-out inspection. If we find stains or damage on LifeX-provided items, we will need to clean or replace them — and the cost will be deducted from your deposit.
To avoid this, we highly encourage you to check your bedding in advance and clean it if needed.

🧽 Cleaning Instructions (Recommended Method)

You’re free to use any cleaning method you prefer, but here’s what we recommend based on our experience:

🧴 Recommended Products:

  • Vanish stain remover (spray or powder)

  • Bleach (Klor) – found in most supermarkets

🛏 Pillows, Duvets, Mattress & Pillow Protectors

🔹 For Small Stains:

  1. Mix water & bleach (10:1 ratio) in a spray bottle and spray directly on the stain.

  2. Wait ~10 minutes.

  3. Wash in the machine at 60°C.

  4. Optional: Add a couple of tablespoons of bleach in the fabric softener compartment for extra whitening.

🔹 For Larger Stains:

  1. Wash the item at 60°C.

  2. Add 1 scoop of Vanish directly into the machine (not the drawer).

  3. Add a couple of tablespoons of bleach to the fabric softener compartment.

  4. After washing, check the item and spot clean again if needed.

Drying: You may use a dryer on low heat.
⚠️ Important: Wash bedding only with other white items to avoid discolouration.

🧼 Top Mattresses

Hopefully protected by the mattress protector — but if not:

  1. Unzip the cover and separate it into 2 parts.

  2. Clean following the same steps above (depending on the size of the stains).

  3. Only half of the cover usually fits in a washing machine at once.

  4. Hang dry to prevent shrinkage. You can leave it drying on a rack in your room — our housekeeper will put it back if needed.

🧼 Helpful Notes

  • The fabric softener compartment in most machines is the middle one (marked with a flower symbol).

  • Vanish and bleach are available in most supermarkets in the cleaning products section.
