Having the heating cut off is extremely frustrating, and we completely understand how annoying this situation can be.
â
đ Before You Try to Fix the Issue, Check the Following:
Check the LifeX app for any announcements regarding planned heating interruptions in your apartment or area. We always announce scheduled heating interruptions as soon as we receive information from our landlords.
Check if the whole apartment is without heating or if only certain rooms are affected. A quick touch of the radiators in other rooms should help you identify the issue.
Check whether the entire building is affected. If your neighbours are experiencing the same issue, there might be a problem with the building's central heating system or the external heating supply.
Check your heating system. Some apartments in Hamburg use district heating (Fernwärme), while others have individual or central heating systems. The appropriate service provider depends on your building.
Hamburger Energiewerke (District Heating)
Hamburger Energiewerke operates Hamburg's district heating network (Fernwärmenetz).
However, the company is responsible for the heating supply only up to the connection with the building's internal heating installation.
If your apartment uses district heating and you suspect an interruption in the external supply:
Report a district heating supply disruption: Call Hamburger Energiewerke's 24/7 emergency service at 040 6396 2871.
If you are a tenant: Hamburger Energiewerke advises tenants to contact their building management (Hausverwaltung) first.
đ Visit the official website: Hamburger Energiewerke â Technical Problems
Important note:
Not every heating problem is caused by an interruption in the external supply.
If the issue is within the building's internal heating installation, the building management or landlord will need to arrange the necessary inspection and repairs.
LifeX can contact the landlord or property management on your behalf to help investigate the issue.
Please note that Hamburg has different heating suppliers and systems, so Hamburger Energiewerke is not necessarily the provider responsible for every LifeX apartment.
What If the Whole Building Has No Heating?
If the heating is not working anywhere in your apartment and other residents are experiencing the same issue, there may be a problem with the building's central heating system or the external supply.
In this case:
Check the LifeX app for announcements.
Ask your neighbours whether they are experiencing the same issue.
Contact LifeX Support via the app and let us know that the entire apartment or building is affected.
We will contact the landlord or property management to investigate the situation and determine whether a technician or the relevant heating provider needs to be involved.
Important: Unannounced technical failures may occur without prior notice. If this happens, we will coordinate with the relevant parties to help resolve the issue as quickly as possible.
However, if the heating interruption is not related to the external supplier, we will need some additional information from you to proceed.
But My Heating Isn't Working in Only One Room or Radiator! đ
In many cases, if only one radiator isn't heating up, the issue may be related to trapped air in the pipes or a problem with the radiator's thermostat.
To help us understand the issue, please check the following:
Is the upper part of the radiator warm, but the bottom part cold?
Are the pipes connected to the radiator hot?
Is the radiator completely cold?
Have you checked whether the thermostat is turned up?
If you notice that the radiator is partially warm or suspect trapped air, please send us pictures of both sides of the radiator (where the thermostat and the valve pin are located) via the LifeX app.
We'll review the information and arrange assistance if necessary.
If the radiator is completely cold, there might be a problem with the heating system in your building, or there could be an issue with the thermostat or heating supply.
In this case, we will reach out to the landlord or property management and arrange a technician visit if required.
If the repair takes longer, we can also discuss providing a portable heater while you wait for the radiator to be fixed. đĄď¸
Does Your Apartment Use Floor Heating? đ¤Ť
Some apartments in Hamburg have underfloor heating (FuĂbodenheizung), which works differently from traditional radiators.
Underfloor heating generally takes longer to warm up, so it may not feel warm immediately after adjusting the thermostat.
To help us understand the issue, please check the following:
Is the floor heating slightly warm, or is it completely cold?
Which areas of the apartment are not heating up?
Is the thermostat or control dial on the wall turned up?
Have you noticed whether the heating works in other rooms?
Please also send us a picture of the floor heating thermostat or control panel via the LifeX app.
This will help us identify the type of system and determine the next steps.
