No Electricity in Your Home in Oslo?

📍 Oslo, NO Sudden power outage? Don't panic — we've got your back! This guide will walk you through what to check and what steps to take 🧠🔌

👇 Before You Try to Fix Anything:

1️⃣ Check the LifeX App

We post updates about any planned power cuts from landlords as soon as we receive them.

2️⃣ Is it just one room or the whole apartment?

Try turning on the lights in different rooms to determine how widespread the issue is.

3️⃣ Go outside into the hallway

Check if hallway or common-area lights are working. If possible, ask your neighbours whether they are experiencing the same issue.

🏢 If the Whole Building is Out of Power:

If your neighbours and the common areas are also without electricity, it may be a local or area-wide power outage.

In Oslo, the electricity distribution network is operated by Elvia.

🔍 Check the official Elvia Power Outage Map here:

You can search for your address to check:

  • Whether an outage has been reported in your area.

  • Which areas and electricity meters are affected.

  • Whether there is an estimated time for the power supply to be restored.

  • Whether any planned maintenance is taking place.

📞 Elvia Emergency Line:

+47 22 44 10 40

Elvia's control centre is available 24/7.

If your neighbours are also without electricity but the outage is not displayed on the map, contact Elvia directly to report it.

⚠️ Important: The outage map is continuously updated, but some smaller faults in the low-voltage network may not appear. If the whole building is affected, it's still worth reporting the issue.

🏠 If It's Only Your Apartment:

If your neighbours have electricity, but your apartment doesn't, it could be due to:

  • A tripped fuse (sikring).

  • A faulty appliance (e.g. kettle, toaster or heater).

  • A problem with the apartment's electrical installation.

  • A tripped main fuse or residual-current device (jordfeilbryter).

What You Can Do:

🔧 Check the fuse box (Sikringsskap):

  • Look for the main fuse (hovedsikring) and the residual-current device (jordfeilbryter).

  • Check whether any switches have tripped.

  • If you can safely identify the affected switch, you may try resetting it once.

  • If it trips again, unplug recently used appliances and do not keep resetting it.

⚠️ Never touch exposed wires, damaged electrical components or the inside of the electricity meter.

🔌 Check your appliances:

If the power went out after using a particular appliance, unplug it if it is safe to do so.

Still no electricity? Contact us via the LifeX App and we'll help you investigate the issue.

If necessary, we will contact the landlord or arrange for a qualified electrician to inspect the installation.

🧠 Final Tips:

💡 If the power is out, use flashlights instead of candles for safety.

📱 Keep your phone charged using a power bank if possible.

📦 Unplug sensitive electronics during an outage to reduce the risk of damage when power returns.

🚨 If you notice sparks, smoke, a burning smell or exposed electrical wires, stay away and report the situation immediately. In case of fire or immediate danger, call 110.
