1️⃣ Check the LifeX App
We’ll post any announcements about planned construction works near your apartment as soon as we’re informed by landlords or local authorities.
2️⃣ Check if it’s official municipal roadwork
Sometimes the noise is caused by roadworks or other city infrastructure projects. You can check current construction sites here:

➡️ Click on the construction site symbols to see more details.
➡️ Please note that the map mainly shows construction sites lasting three days or longer, and it may not include every project.
3️⃣ Know the legal quiet hours 🕖
In Hamburg, the use of construction machinery in residential and other specially protected areas is generally prohibited during the following times:
Night-time: From 8:00 PM to 7:00 AM on working days.
Sundays and public holidays: Construction machinery covered by the applicable noise regulations may not be operated.
Exceptions: Special permits may allow certain noisy construction work outside these hours.
This does not mean that all construction noise is automatically prohibited outside these times. Specific permits and the type of work being carried out can affect what is allowed.
If you're hearing disruptive construction noise during protected hours, try to record or document it and send us the proof via the LifeX app. We’ll escalate the issue to your landlord or building administrator.
🤔 So, What Can You Do?
Unfortunately, construction noise — especially when permitted — is outside LifeX’s direct control, so we aren’t able to offer rent discounts in such cases. However, we can still support you in small ways:
🛏 Room swap: In very loud or prolonged cases, we might be able to offer a temporary room swap (subject to availability).
🧘♂️ Earplugs: Let us know if you need a set — we’re happy to provide them to help reduce the noise while you work or rest.
