A sudden power outage can be really disruptive, especially when you're in the middle of something important. But don’t panic — here’s a quick guide on what to check and do depending on the situation 👇
🧠 Step 1: Check This First
✅ Check the LifeX App
We’ll always notify you of any planned electricity outages from landlords as soon as we’re informed.
💡 Check if the outage is partial or total
Try switching on/off lights in different rooms to see if it’s the whole apartment or just a section.
🏢 Check the building
Step into the hallway or ask your neighbors if they have power. This helps determine if the outage affects just your apartment or the entire building.
🛰️ Regional Power Outages – Stromnetz Berlin
Stromnetz is the electricity provider managing Berlin’s local power infrastructure. You can check for reported outages here:

If your building and neighbors are affected but nothing appears on the map yet, it might still be in the process of being registered — feel free to contact Stromnetz directly.
⚠️ What to Do Based on the Situation
🏙 The whole building is without electricity
If the hallways and neighbors also have no power, it’s likely a regional outage. A power line might be down due to nearby construction or a grid failure. In this case, check the Stromnetz page and wait for updates. These outages are typically resolved within a few hours.
🏠 Only your apartment has no power
This usually points to an internal issue, such as a blown fuse or overloaded circuit. It often happens after plugging in too many devices or using high-wattage appliances.
🧰 Can You Fix It Yourself?
If you feel safe and know your way around an electrical panel, here are some quick checks:
Open the fuse box / circuit breaker panel.
See if any RCD switches (FI-Schalter) or circuit breakers have flipped to OFF.
If so, turn off any high-powered devices (kettles, heaters, etc.) and reset the switch.
⚠️ Important: Only do this if there is no danger (e.g., no signs of smoke, burning smell, sparks, etc.).
Otherwise, don’t touch anything and immediately contact us via the LifeX App — we’ll arrange for an electrician to assist you.
