Having the heating cut off is extremely frustrating, and we completely understand how annoying this situation can be.

πŸ‘‡ Before you try to fix the issue, check the following:

  1. Check the LifeX app for any announcements regarding planned heating cuts in your apartment or area. We always announce scheduled heating interruptions as soon as we get the message from our landlords.

  2. Check if the whole apartment is without heating or if only certain rooms are affected. A quick touch of the radiators in other rooms should help you check.

  3. Is the entire building without heating? If so, it might be a regional heating supply interruption. In this case, please contact SWM (the heating service provider for Munich).

SWM

SWM is the heating service supplier for our apartments in Munich.

  • Check the status of all maintenance work in the city 🌐. Simply type in your home address in the search bar to find more info.

  • If your apartment is in the affected areas, you will be able to see updates regarding when the maintenance work will be completed by clicking on the triangle sign.

  • Important note:
Breakdowns or acute closures of heating pipelines do not always give us time to notify you. In the case of an unannounced interruption, such as a blown pipe in SWM's system, LifeX cannot directly resume the heating. However, we will reach out to SWM on your behalf by dialing the service number: πŸ“ž 0800 796 888 000

  • If you are using google chrome as the default browser, note that you can switch the language to English by turning on Google Translate to translate the entire page with your chrome browser.

  • Alternatively, you could also wait a bit for the heating to come back, as the technicians are probably working very hard in the meantime to fix it. Chances are, you may live in an area with many neighbors who are affected by this emergency. So, issues might already be reported this issue to SWM before we even hear about it.

However, if the heating cut is not an issue triggered on the supplier's side, we will need more information from you, in order to proceed with it.

But my heating isn’t working in only one room or radiator! 😭

In most cases, if only one of the radiators isn’t heating up, it’s due to air trapped in the pipes. This air prevents heat from being distributed evenly. To check if this is the case, ask yourself these questions:

  • Is the upper part of the radiator warm, but the bottom part is cold?

  • Are the pipes connected to the radiator hot?

If you answered YES to the above questions, please send us a picture of both sides of the radiator (where the thermostat and the pin are) via the LifeX app. We'll send someone to assist you promptly.

If you answered NO, there might be a problem with the heating system in your building, or there could be an issue with the supplier. In this case, we will reach out to the landlord and schedule a technician visit. This process may take longer, but we can offer a portable heater while you wait for the radiator to be fixed. 🌑️

Does Your Apartment Use Floor Heating? 🀫

We understand that some apartments in Munich have floor heating, which takes a little longer to warm up. Floor heating typically stops when it reaches a certain temperature. To help us understand the issue, please check the following:

  • Is the floor heating warm? Or is it stone cold?

  • Where in the apartment is it not warm?

  • Is the dial for the floor heating on the wall turned up fully?
