How to ventilate?

Why it's important to do it? How to do it?

Written by Xena

🪟 Why should I ventilate?

Regular ventilation is essential for a healthy indoor environment. Here’s why it matters:

  • 🧼 Cleans the air by removing CO₂, odors, and moisture

  • 🦠 Prevents mold by reducing excess humidity

  • 🤧 Reduces germs and allergens, improving your overall well-being

  • 🏠 Protects your home — proper airflow keeps walls and furniture in better condition over time

❌ What not to do

Keeping a window constantly tilted open for long periods is not effective for air exchange and causes unnecessary heat loss.

✅ What to do instead

Use intense, short bursts of ventilation by fully opening the window. This quickly replaces stale indoor air with fresh outdoor air.

⏱️ How long should you ventilate?

It depends on the outside temperature:

  • 🥶 0°C and below: 2–3 minutes

  • 🧊 Around 5°C: 5 minutes

  • 🌤️ 10°C and above: 8 minutes

💡 The colder it is outside, the quicker the air will exchange!

🔁 How often should I ventilate?

  • 🛏️ Bedrooms & common areas:
At least twice a day — ideally in the morning and evening

  • 🛁 Bathrooms:
Always ventilate after every shower to prevent humidity build-up and mold

  • 🍳 Kitchens:
Open windows during or after cooking to reduce moisture and odors

♨️ Bonus Tip: Don’t forget the thermostat!

💡 When you open the windows, set your thermostat to a minimum or temporary pause mode. This avoids wasting energy or confusing the system — otherwise, it might try to heat the outside air!
